PM Modi Calls for Responsible Opposition as 18th Lok Sabha Inaugural Session Begins.
Ahead of the 18th Lok Sabha’s opening session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged a responsible opposition, emphasizing the importance of meaningful discussion over empty promises. “India needs genuine opposition. People want substance, not slogans,” he said. PM Modi highlighted that the people want a good and responsible opposition and noted that the opposition’s previous behavior has been unsatisfactory. He expressed hope that this time the opposition will fulfill its duty and uphold democratic civility.
The Prime Minister pointed out that this is the first time in the last 60 years that a government has taken power for a third consecutive term, calling his alliance’s election victory “great and grand” and a source of pride.
Greeting the recently elected lawmakers, Prime Minister Modi celebrated the day as a turning point in India’s democratic history. He underlined the significance of the current session as a Varanasi MP, stressing its ability to advance India towards the goal of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
“Tomorrow is June 25. It is a day that will always hold special meaning for those who uphold the dignity of the Indian Constitution and democratic traditions. It is the 50th anniversary of the black stain on Indian democracy,” he remarked, referring to the proclamation of emergency, when the Constitution was rejected, destroyed, and the nation was effectively made into a jail.
Prime Minister Modi pledged to the country, saying, “I want to assure the people that our government will work three times harder in its third term and deliver three times more.”
Reiterating that while a majority may be required to govern, the nation operates on consensus, Prime Minister Modi promised that his administration will always work to bring everyone along and forge consensus in order to serve the nation and realize the dreams of its citizens.
He stated that the 18th Lok Sabha’s inaugural session presents a critical chance to set a new standard for the nation. He went on to say that by 2047, it will be full of resolve and dreams to create “Shreshtha Bharat” and “Viksit Bharat.”
